Voices from the Coast: Podcasting Risk, Resilience, and Communication

Have you considered podcasting as a way to communicate with your audience? Podcasting can be a great knowledge mobilization tool for any organization or individual – from students to researchers or research groups, to practitioners (like emergency planners), or NGOs. For coastal risk communication, it can be a ‘new-to-you’ way to reach your audience, for example, with emergency preparedness information or to build relationships by interviewing local communication or preparedness professionals and their audiences. It’s a great way for people to share their on-the-ground experiences as well, which helps messages to resonate. We have additional resources I’ll share with the registrants as well.

We are excited to welcome two Canadian podcasters who will share their perspectives as podcast hosts and producers and discuss topics such as selecting platforms and technologies, generating podcast topics, selecting and interviewing guests, the successes and challenges they’ve encountered, and more. PRESENTERS
Angela Antle is the 2025 Rachel Carson Writer in Residence at Germany’s LMU, a former CBC producer, and interdisciplinary PhD candidate at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. She is the producer and host of the podcast GYRE and a member of Norway’s Empowered Futures: A Global Research School Navigating the Social and Environmental Controversies of Low-Carbon Energy Transitions. Her research intersects climate communications and justice, disinformation, petrocultures, energy futures, and political rhetoric. Michelle Brake is the Technical Marketing Manager at Esri Canada and the host of Geographical Thinking, the company’s podcast that highlights how geographic information systems (GIS) are transforming the way we understand and interact with the world around us.
